Ms. Scarminach received her Bachelor of Arts at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia in 2000 with a major in Sociology. Her initial employment was as a Montessori school teacher with Sea Pines Montessori School in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina and Garden Montessori School in Knoxville, Tennessee. Ms. Scarminach entered John Marshall Law School, Atlanta, Georgia in 2005 and received a Juris Doctor degree in May, 2008. Her current practice is focused on Family Law and Criminal And Juvenile Defense.
While in law school, Ms. Scarminach was selected as a summer intern at the Davidson County District Attorney's Office, with provisional privileges that allowed her to formally practice in the Davidson County General Sessions Court. Ms. Scarminach also worked as an intern at the Public Defender's Office in Atlanta during her third year of law school, representing clients in first appearance hearings at the Fulton County Jail and conducting preliminary hearings in Magistrate Court proceedings.
Ms. Scarminach is admitted to the State Bar of Tennessee and the United States District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee. She is a member of the Tennessee Bar Association, the Tennessee Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the Lawyers' Association for Women, Marion Griffin Chapter.
Since her admission to the Bar, Ms. Scarminach has successfully represented a wide range of clients as lead and co-counsel in both civil and criminal matters. Her civil experience includes representing numerous clients in personal injury claims against third party insurance companies and under the Tennessee Uninsured Motorist statue. Her experience also includes representation of criminal defendants in misdemeanors and felonies in proceedings at both the state and federal level. She has also represented juvenile defendants in delinquency proceedings, and parents and children in dependency and neglect proceedings in the Juvenile Court.
Ms. Scarminach believes it is important to give back to her community and has been actively involved in various nonprofit organizations. She currently serves as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for children who are the subject of Dependency and Neglect cases in the Tennessee Juvenile Court system. She has formerly served on the Advisory Council for the Nashville Clean Water Project, working with committee members to plan an annual clean up of Percy Priest Lake. In 2006, she participated in the Breast Cancer 3Day, which she raised over $2,200 by walking 60 miles to promote breast cancer research and care. A native of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, Ms. Scarminach has chosen to make Middle Tennessee her home and is active in various outdoor recreational activities to include biking, camping, and fitness activities.
